Binomial distribution is a discrete probability distribution that describes the probability of getting a certain number of successes in a fixed number of independent trials. The distribution is called binomial because it deals with two possible outcomes, which are usually referred to as success and failure.

The parameters of a binomial distribution are:

  • n: The number of trials.
  • p: The probability of success in each trial.

The probability of getting exactly k successes in n trials is given by the binomial probability mass function:

P(X = k) = (n choose k) * p^k * (1 – p)^(n – k)

where (n choose k) is the binomial coefficient, which represents the number of ways to choose k items from a set of n items.

The mean and variance of a binomial distribution are:

  • Mean: μ = np
  • Variance: σ^2 = np(1-p)
